Germany's oldest wine region

The wine presses also did not change much over the last 1,700 years. A few technical optimizations, but in general the purpose is still the same: extracting the valuable juice by applying mechanical pressure. The Romans copied the process of producing wine from the Greeks which brought it to to the Celtic county around 800 BC. Back then, they did not bring it to the river Moselle, but via the Greek colony Massilia (Marseille) at least to the Rhone-area (today: southern France).
